nicopopcorn.jpgIn his inimitable smooth style, under glorious spring weather, Nicolas Mueller (SUI) claimed the first-ever Slopestyle title of TTR THREE(3)STAR Snickers Classic & Popcorn Wallride, held at Saas-Fee, Switzerland, 19th-22nd April, 2007.

The last major professional event on the Ticket To Ride (TTR) World Snowboard Tour 06/07, the Snickers Classic & Popcorn Wallride delivered a perfect and worthy ending to the snowboard season. As bikini-clad bodies bronzed in hot sun on the beach-styled Popcorn Plaza at the Saas-Fee Spielboden glacier run, riders went all-out to enjoy the super-fun Slopestyle park designed by local Swiss stars, Frederik Kalbermatten (SUI) & Marco Schwab (SUI). Starting with a cliff-drop, the course included a huge table-jump, a roller-jump, a step-up manual box and snow-box. Two qualification heats of 15 cut into a 12-man Super Final where each finalist received a share of the 10,000USD prize purse. Judges marked riders during the Slopestyle jam sessions based on overall impression through the course.

Hard-pushed to judge the striking line-up of European snowboard talent, it was Nicolas Mueller’s (SUI) creativity, fluidity and variety of tricks that set him apart from his peers. Mueller’s (SUI) stylish runs included a neat 540 off the cliff-drop, a Cab 900 Japan and snow-box jibbing – the only rider to do so.

BrOADER TV logoIntergirlactik is over and looking back it has been a great event!

It was our first contest partnership and we were stocked to see how the girls were going big – back 7s on the 15m gap for Claudia – on the perfectly shaped HO5 Snowpark.

The weather was nice, the vibes super good and it was also cool to be able to check out and test 07/08 boards from Allian, Forum, Roxy, Gnu, Lib Tech as well as Beyond bindings. Oh yeah, and the friendly drunk swiss from the Pinard crew were there, hunting down Serge…

Can’t wait for next year!! In the meanwhile check out our video of the finals!

Results :

The official 3 Star TTR contest had to be postponed from Saturday to Sunday. The reason was the bad sight which made it impossible to clear “the biggest Spring Battle Jam Kicker ever” without any risk.

Sunday, April the 1st :
The setup for the Absolut Park Spring Battle 07 consisted of a fat booter with massive airtime bigger than any other Spring Battle kicker before. At the end of the course on the right they had a 6 m Tree Bonk, a Wallride in the middle and a small Corner on the left – the riders had to face a choice.

avatar-tv-1.gifStraight out from les 2 Alpes, Arthur Longo is the new hot shot from the french snowboard scene.
Arthur has had an amazing contest season winning the O’Neill Pro Freestyle in Avoriaz, scoring big in the O’Neill Evolution in Davos, flying high at the Artic Challenge and finishing -only- second at the Billabong Jr Pro in Leysin!

And that’s a season for Arthur during which – in his own words – he didn’t push it to hard!
That’s right, Arthur is concentrating on finishing school this year but is completly pumped up already for next year when he plans to push it to the next level!
Check out our video with Arthur shot during the Billabong Jr Pro and get to know this super talented rider. Oh, I almost forgot, Arthur also plans to improve his English so in the meanwhile it’s your turn to improve your French…

wangltangl.jpg

The Ästhetiker Wängl Tängl Jam final went of yesterday, Sunday 25th 2007.

On a super creative park including either a three-kicker line to a step-up bowl or a banked slalom rail line followed by a half-cradle, a corner and two rails, the 30 finalists battled their way to the top. Some sick riding!

At the end of the day local hero and Aesthetiker spiritual leader, Steven Gruber won the contest with an impressive and most stylish run: Cab 720, switch backside 540, backside 720 and a super smooth move in the Taco. The strongest oppostion came from scandinavian riders Jaakko Ruha from Finland and swede Kalle Ohlson who finished second and third respectively with strong runs.
As always the spirit was great during the whole 4 days of contest and the set up really allowed the riders to show their skills and creativity.

Keep da spirit!

torah.jpgavatar BrOADER girliesPerfect spring conditions prevailed at Park City as the Slopestyle contest of the 3rd Annual Roxy Chicken Jam became the deciding TTR point-earning event for the women’s Champion title. With one of the most talented rider line-ups of the season, the best-of-4-runs jam session culminated in a 15-woman Final that proved a close-cut challenge for judges to call. After tough deliberation, Slopestyle victory finally went to accomplished rider Tara Dakides (USA) who delivered amongst her best runs a backflip over the kicker, backside rodeo to a clean backside 720, ending with a boardslide-to-fakie on the flat down flat. Jamie Anderson’s (USA) fluidity and impressive rail maneuvers throughout the course earned a second place finish, and take her back to the TTR World Nr 2 spot.

But it was Torah Bright’s clean mix of cab 540s and cab 720s that earned her a 3rd place podium result – and win enough TTR points to extend her Nr 1 lead over last season’s Tour winner, Cheryl Maas (NED) – and secure the 2nd Women’s TTR World Snowboard Tour Champion 06/07 crown.

Bright (AUS) joins recently crowned male Shaun White (USA) as the TTR World Tour Champions 06/07.

pinkyjam.jpg

avatar BrOADER girliesThe Pinky Jam, a 2 star TTR event and the finals of the SOUL GANG TOUR – the first European amateur tour exclusively dedicated to girls – will take place in Chiesa si Valmalenco, Italy from March 23rd till 25th.
As TTR tradition, the winner will gain the access to an even more important competition supported by http://www.snowbroader.eu: the Intergirlactik, at Les 7 Laux (France) from April 4th to 8th.

To who doesn’t want to take part to the female snowboard & free ski contest, the Pinky Jam prescribes the only rule of the event: have fun! As at the 2006 edition, there will be free snowboard and free ski camps for all the girls, altitude barbeque party, downstream well-being centre, dinners full of outstanding typical food and wine of the Valtellina, a floral staff, dj’s live set and one of the season most longed for party in Saturday night! All that will take place at the Palù Park of Chiesa Val Malenco, which will exceptionally be re-shaped for the event! If you have lost the 2006 edition now you can join the italian style into a female event.

aesthetiker.jpgOn March 22 till 25, in the beautiful park of Mayrhofen, the Asthetiker Jam Wängl Tängl , an eclectic mixture of Austrian snow, skate, sound and street art will kick off. The comp is a TTR 5-Star event – which means a huge payout of $30,000USD and a brand new Suzuki LT-Z400 Quad Bike to the Wangl Tangl slopestyle winner.

Over 40 riders from all over will compete at this TTR event for big prizes on a slopestyle course featuring snow cradles – park-size skate bowls you can shred on. This skate-to-snow invention is credited to its inventors, the Shape Crew slopestyle makers, who also threw into the course a variety of wild rails and kickers for competitors to choose from.

“Last year was the first time we had a cradle in the contest. We had a one before, but we had it for ourselves,” says Bernie Koeffler, press manager for Aesthetiker.com. “Last year was the first time we integrated it as an obstacle in the slopestly contest.”

Riders who tackle the Shape Crew course select their own run from a mixed bag of options. The main rule: four tricks have to be thown and stomped for a complete run. The variety factor remains high as riders must test and trust their creativity to place first.

Shaun White won today’s US Open halfpipe competition, the culminating event in the international Burton Global Open Series.
Following the halfpipe awards, Jake Burton presented the first ever Burton Global Open Series Championship awards to Shaun White, handing him a $100,000 check – the largest single payout in snowboarding history.

He won also the Volvo Most Valuable Rider Award, earning a new Volvo C30 T5 for his outstanding results during the WE.
Shaun got some more pennies, earning $5,000 in slopestyle, $20,000 in halfpipe, plus a Motorola cell phone.

Oh yeah! And to round it up White is the new 06/07 TTR World Champion!

Burton US Open men results picIn harsh riding conditions, Travis Rice (USA) killed today’s Slopestyle contest at the 25th Burton US Open Snowboard Championships – as Shaun White’s (USA) 3rd place finish boosts him straight up to TTR World Nr 1 spot.

In a best of 3-runs format, Travis Rice (USA) threw down a solid frontside boardslide on the first rail, to a backside 720 Japan air, frontside 720 melon grab, backside rodeo 720 nose-grab, switch backside 180 and a front boardslide-to-270-off on the final rail.
Janne Korpi (FIN) landed a worthy 2nd place impressing the judges with his frontside-boardslide, backside 720 mute-grab, frontside 900-melon grab, Cab 720 mute grab, switch backside 720 and ending with a half-Cab boardslide on the rail.
But it was Shaun White (USA) with his podium 3rd who rocked the TTR Ranking List by landing in the key TTR World Nr 1 spot with his result. White’s (USA) run consisted of a boardslide-to-fakie, switch backside 540, frontside 1080, backside 720 mute grab, Cab 900 ending with a lipslide on the final rail. The biggest question is, can White (USA) hold his position after tomorrow’s Halfpipe results to win the TTR Champion title?

Absolut ParkEnd of March (30-31) and for the fifth time in a row, the Spring Battle will be held at the Absolut Park in Flachauwinkl (Austria).
This year the invited and qualified riders can collect some extra 3* TTR points.
Beside the massive Spring Battle Kicker, the shapers of the Absolut Park with supervision from Ex Pros Max Rehrl and Seppi Harml will build a Surprise Obstacle like in the last years. Maybe you remember last year’s “Bowl to Wallride”!!
This year riders have to qualify via “Friends Events” like the Ästhetiker Shred Down in Westendorf, the Final of the Snow Park Tour or the Absolut Park Event Pop’n’Drop. There will be no open “Amateurs Quali” before the event. But a lot of international pros like Mone Monsberger, Marco Grilc, Stefan Gruber and Martin Sandberg will be present and we are curious about who is going to win.

It took us a couple of days to get our brains back in play mode and finalise this post/video on the Billabong Jr Pro.
The past week in Leysin was great: high standard of riding by the future stars of the worldwide snowboard scene – when the wind was not blowing too hard – and a very festive and laid back atmosphere.

Props to Billabong for putting up this true rookie competition and giving the kids the best conditions to express their talent.
The finals which were scheduled on saturday had to be postponed to sunday because of strong winds. Sadly it was still blowing on sunday morning so the organisers and the riders took the best decision which was to keep the results from the semi-final runs to crown the winners.

Franck April from Canada and Marie Hucal from the USof A (high fiiive!) are the Billabong Jr Pro World Champions!
The Tristan Picot award went to french ripper Valérian Ducourtil who impressed the judges with his smooth pipe runs and technical rail shredding. Valérien will receive unique media exposure in the pan European snowboard magazine METHOD MAG.

The finals have been postponed to sunday because of strong winds blowing on the slopestyle course today.

Enjoy!

There was a lot of action today at the Billabong World Junior Pro in Leysin and the sunny weather made it an epic day of riding!
Both qualifications and semi-finals were on today for boys and girls. At the end of the day we are left with 9 girls and 9 guys who will battle it off tomorrow for the title of World Jr Champ.
Arthur Longo from France pulled out the most impressive run of the day with huge airs, smooth landings and a front flip out of the rail. “It was a super cool day! I had a good run, I’m happy. I did a Backside 720 on the table, then I got into the pipe with the hip, I did three airs, a Backside 540, a frontside 900, then I took the flat rail and a front flip off to finish!”
Arthur is definitly the favorite to take the title…but we’ll have to wait and see as the other finalists have all had strong runs.

The Tristan Picot Memorial will also be awarded to the most outstanding rider of the week.
