In the meanwhile, surf through our archives and check out our BrOADER TV episodes to relive some of the action from 2006/07!
Have a look especially at all of our posts from ISPO2007 if you want to discover some of the hot gear that you will find in the snowshops this fall. We have more than 30 brands covered for you!

Anyway, if you want to be sure not to miss any of the action, you can send us an email at hello[at]snowbroader.eu and we’ll let you know as soon as we are back on tracks!

2007 might have been the worst winter ever in our mountains, we still had a lot of fun riding and updating this blog, always doing our best to bring you closer to the European snowboarding action day after day!

We hope you enjoyed it and we want to thank our readers for supporting us and interacting with us during this past 6 months.
Thanks also to all the people who played the game: the riders, the film crews, the photographers, the press agencies, the young bloods, the brands, all the people we got in contact with.
Everybody has been so friendly. And this experience reminds us that snowboarding is such a FAMILY.

We are going to close www.snowbroader.eu now but we will be back in October 2007 to bring you once again all the news, and reviews on the European snowboarding action!

Of course we will try to come back stronger with cooler content and (maybe) a nicer site look and feel, so please give us your feedback or ideas about what you think we can improve.

Have a great summer!

Peace

The BrOs!

Here’s a little clip from MMPfilms showing what Thomas Harstad, Christian Halland and their photographer IJ experienced when they where filming at mt.rose a couple of days ago. Take it as a lesson and be always aware of the consequences when hitting the backcountry! Fortunately nothing happened to the guys and they could enjoy the rest of their trip. That’s it for today, respect mother nature and stay safe!

btnsnow.jpgSpending a summer in Norway is a dream come true for a lot of dudes.
Make it happen and bring together two of the best things in life: beautiful girls and snowboarding?!

Check out the Snowboard Summer Camp in Stryn, from the 18th to 22nd of June 2007, and in Folgefonna where Nixon presents the 12th season of snowboard summer camps to be held there.

This year, camps will be better than ever with more activities, more pro riders, more suprises but keeping the same laid back attitude that makes this the camp with soul…

For all you guys and girls who are already thinking about what you will want to ride next season, check out those two short video presentations with 2008 snowboards from Allian and Gnu.

ALLIAN logo The girly freestyle range is composed of the Vivian serie (138-142-145-14 8) in the high end, while the Freedom serie (136-142-146-150-154) is offering the best prices.

GNU logoGirls will be happy with this easy riding B-nice serie (144-147-150-153). All mountain freestyle boards from entry level to rippers who want to look at the whole mountain as their park. Available in regular and smooth riding Magne-traction.75. The nice design is from Fumi Watanabe.

Hey, it’s really time to quit the ride for this year and concentrate on the beach, but for addicts out there who didn’t get enough days on the slopes or want to practise new tricks in the best conditions, we decided to prepare a quick round-up of Summer camps which will be held in Europe. Today we start with the camps in Les 2 Alpes!

btzlogo.jpgAfter CHILLing last year, H8 productions and the Advita crew have been working hard on their new video which will be out in fall 07. Due to lack of snow in Europe, the guys had to travel a lot to find the right spots to express their styles. So this film will be about all their adventures, good and bad.

Check out their first teaser and head to their website for more videos, rider presentations and goodies.

Nidecker logo

All lot of snowboard companies have developped the “mini-me” snowboard these past season. These boards are super playfull and taking them out for a day gives a completly different feeling to a regular snowboard day. When we met Darius last time, he was rocking the new 2007/08 Nidecker Nano and that’s what he had to say about it:

lesetteslogo.jpgWant-ette is fruity, fresh and clean with light notes of fig, Love-ette is feminine, soft, sweet and light with a touch of iris. Why not end up the season in style with a nice perfume from Les ettes?

Les Ettes and BrOADER have teamed up to make 3 lucky girls - or guys who want to make a nice gift to their girlfriends - the happy winners of an exclusive bottle of Want-ette or Love-ette!

To take part in the draw it’s super simple! Just fill in the form below and in the comment box give us the name of 2 of the sexy sweet riders on the Les Ettes team as well as your age, favorite hobbies, and nationality.

Best of luck!

As they say on their website “Focus is a raw and aggresive look into the lives of snowboarders trying to make a career out of something they love so much. Let us take you on an artistic journey into the lives of a few individuals and their circle of friends who are all on different paths but are all connected by snowboarding. This film will document a winter of their triumphs and failures and why they put so much blood, sweat and years into this winter passion. People, who struggle through many things in life just so they can snowboard. People with everything to lose and possibly nothing to gain: people brought together by one focus - snowboarding.”

Watch their teaser:

Freesteal II

AKTAES, a french multimedia agency has produced an interesting first episode Freesteal I, with good riders such as Nico Watier & Xavier Marcoud. Freesteal II is the second opus of this trilogy dedicated to snowboarding. It will be available next season but you can already have a look at the teaser here!!

The Isenseven crew is working hard on their up-coming movie “Übermovie“. In 2 weeks people who live close to Munich will have the chance to see it before everyone else at the Pleasure Season’s End Party at the Badeanstalt, 12th of May.

However today it’s time for a new monthly clip: IDIOTS part 2.
It’s the sequel to last year’s popular “Idiots” clip that you can download now at www.isenseven.de!

We painted ourselves some holes to fall inside.
2 minutes packed with cheerfulness, foolishness and idiocy.
Our misfortune shall be your joy!

One night in hell for Sebastien LouvetAfter crossing the Alps in 2004, and then the Nice - Chamonix treck in 2006, the French snowboarder Seb Louvet, is getting ready for a new challenge : Monetiers-les-Bains – La Grave in one night and one day…through the “Dôme des Ecrins” and “La Meije”!! If the weather is ok, it is planned for the 3rd and 4th may.

To prepare this trip which includes more than 6500m height, more than if you walk up 23 times to the 3rd floor of the Eiffel Tower at more than 2000m above the sea level, Seb made many trecks during the winter.
It’s better to be super trained to make 24 hours of non-stop rise and downhill in the middle of these mythical summits!
Equiped with approach skis for going uphill, Seb needs a light equipment on his back. He’s got a Rossignol setting : Works 162 snowboard, Works Carbon bindings and Revolve boots.

nicopopcorn.jpgIn his inimitable smooth style, under glorious spring weather, Nicolas Mueller (SUI) claimed the first-ever Slopestyle title of TTR THREE(3)STAR Snickers Classic & Popcorn Wallride, held at Saas-Fee, Switzerland, 19th-22nd April, 2007.

The last major professional event on the Ticket To Ride (TTR) World Snowboard Tour 06/07, the Snickers Classic & Popcorn Wallride delivered a perfect and worthy ending to the snowboard season. As bikini-clad bodies bronzed in hot sun on the beach-styled Popcorn Plaza at the Saas-Fee Spielboden glacier run, riders went all-out to enjoy the super-fun Slopestyle park designed by local Swiss stars, Frederik Kalbermatten (SUI) & Marco Schwab (SUI). Starting with a cliff-drop, the course included a huge table-jump, a roller-jump, a step-up manual box and snow-box. Two qualification heats of 15 cut into a 12-man Super Final where each finalist received a share of the 10,000USD prize purse. Judges marked riders during the Slopestyle jam sessions based on overall impression through the course.

Hard-pushed to judge the striking line-up of European snowboard talent, it was Nicolas Mueller’s (SUI) creativity, fluidity and variety of tricks that set him apart from his peers. Mueller’s (SUI) stylish runs included a neat 540 off the cliff-drop, a Cab 900 Japan and snow-box jibbing – the only rider to do so.

BrOADER TV logoEver since we first heard about the Beyondsnow binding concept we wanted to get a closer look at the products and if possible try them out to make up our mind and get the feeling about riding them.

It happened during the Intergirlactik, where Florent was holding the Beyondsnow booth with test gear. So we went to see him to ask him what this strap-in patented concept was all about and tried them ourselves.

Here’s our feedback : Ok, on a powder day when the “friendship doesn’t count” rule applies, you will be happy to gain a few precious seconds to be the first to hit the powpow line because when you have to step-in, the straps are widely opened and a simple pressure on the heel cup sets them in “closing” position in a flash. But then of course you have to tighten them like for a regular binding. We must say that we appreciated the comfort of the main strap. It’s design - split in two parts - makes it pressure points free. The front strap is not different then on a regular binding.
The straps are really easy to close but the ratchets could be improved as the “release button” is too sensitive.
General feeling when riding is good. The bindings offer good board control and are well balanced all round.
In terms of looks, let say that for their first season, the guys probably decided to play low profile with sober colours and designs, axing their communication on the technology more than the aesthetics.

Check out our BrOADER TV episode for our interview of Florent and our product review!

LongBoard Classic pic 1 There exists a species of snowboarder that is more associated with the Gods of board sports than other riders. Most of them can recall times when they were skidding down the mountains on their homemade boards. This species is difficult to find today – or maybe it’s just too modest to reveal its true identity and heritage – although it embodies the backbone of the snowboard scene.
Once a year The Longboard Classic gets them crawling out of their holes and banding together. Once a year they do what their code and common sense forbids: hundreds of them drop into a face at the same time!
After a Le Mans-style mass start at the height of 2,408m, riders will hammer their way down 1,001 metres of off-piste to the village of Stuben (1407m).
So, if you have the heart of a shredder and an old school board or a board longer than 170 cm in your garage, you should instantly register !!

BrOADER TV logoDarius was part of the crew of 4 skiers and snowboarders who travelled to Nepal this winter to try and beat the record of building the highest kicker on earth and stomping tricks.

We met with Darius and asked him about this adventure, human experience and sporting challenge.
Mountain and nature rules it” is the message from Darius! In fact the record didn’t happen because of the harsh weather conditions but it turned out to be an unbelievable experience. Check out our video interview!

ss_lift.jpgSam dropped us an email to let us know about his project, which has been going for just over a year now: SnowSphere Magazine.

It’s a new concept - a travel magazine blended with a snowboarding magazine - thereby featuring “off the beaten piste” articles about exotic ski destinations, from China to Chile, India to Iceland.

The mag is based on the fact that most people have to travel to go snowboarding, and the travelling part is just as important as the snowboarding part.

At www.snowbroader.eu we are totally backing this approach and hope you’ll learn a lot about snowboarding all over the world thanks to SnowSphere.

There are currently 192 different countries on planet earth. You may be surprised to hear that the snow falls on at least 90 of them, from Tanzania to Taiwan, Israel to Iran. SnowSphere explores the world through the medium of snow. Blending travel and local culture with skiing and snowboarding, we bring you inspiring, amusing and informative snow stories from the more mysterious peaks of the planet.

snowbomb2.jpgMethodmag’s HIGHWAY TO HELL kicks off today in Mayrhofen, Austria’s best snowpark.

The contest format is all about fun with a fearsome twist: Friday The Thirteenth will see obstacle sessions with On-The-Spot cash prizes. Saturday will see riders taking on the trident-shaped HIGHWAY TO HELL line for yet more cash handouts, plus €2k prize money for the top 3 overall riders.

The official 3 Star TTR contest had to be postponed from Saturday to Sunday. The reason was the bad sight which made it impossible to clear “the biggest Spring Battle Jam Kicker ever” without any risk.

Sunday, April the 1st :
The setup for the Absolut Park Spring Battle 07 consisted of a fat booter with massive airtime bigger than any other Spring Battle kicker before. At the end of the course on the right they had a 6 m Tree Bonk, a Wallride in the middle and a small Corner on the left – the riders had to face a choice.

Vogel is probably the best riding spot in Slovenia: it’s the home resort of the Elan snowboards crew, where they’ve set up their lab - the experimental Elan Snowpark with modules designed by Aleksi Vaninnen - and an impressive freeriding spot when the conditions are good.
The mountains surrounding Vogel are not the highest ones in Europe but Slovenia - usually - gets lots of snow even at low altitudes.
But most of all the setting is beautiful and the view on the Bohinj Lake coming down with the gondola is always amazing.

Ok that’s for the scenery, now for the crew. We met up with Primoz, Elan snowboards manager, who provided us with some 07/08 Artec boards and Elan bindings and with Blaise Rosenthal…yeap Blaise Rosenthal, dude! I can’t still believe I actually rode the whole day with Blaise Rosenthal (pictured with Matej Pavli, AM Elan rider) ;)
It was really cool by the way. We sessioned the Elan Snowpark pulling old school tricks like chicken salads, cross rockets and so on. Blaise even nailed a backside 3 double suitcase! ;) sick! Up there we also met with local Elan pro rider Matevz Pristavec who was going big on the main kicker, stomping switch frontside 9s like he was having a beer. Too easy.

So we rode a couple of different boards from next season’s ARTEC serie and we were really stocked! The Elan Plab is pushing snowboarding to the next level by providing some of the best hardgoods ever.
Check out our video and get the full story!

Read this, it’s important!

With the effects of Mother Nature’s imbalance far too obvious in the 2007 snow pack, the time has come throughout the snow sports industry to come together to educate and respond to the undeniable global warming crisis.

Always a leader and innovator in his sport, snowboarding legend and longtime Rossignol athlete Jeremy Jones has stepped forward to take a proactive stand, establishing a non-profit environmental initiative under the title “Protect Our Winters”, also known as “POW”.

Right on the buzzer, the Isenseven crew treat us with a new monthly episode of high definition snowboarding! Check it out here.

The past few weeks, almost everyone spend time shooting in North America for a quite long period of time. We had an awful season in Europe, so we just jumped into airplanes quite spontaneously and stayed there way longer than planned - while the editing computers stayed home, of course.
It was a season far away from home, with plenty of catnaps at airports, bad food, rental cars, studying maps, meeting new friends, having extraordinary high phone bills and missing his own bed at home. In this months clip, you’ll watch some outtakes of our crew in North America - tired, confused, surprised but still, most of all - happy to travel with a bunch of friends.

Lord Of Steel

BrOADER TV logoLast week-end, BrOADER was in Lyon (Fr) for the Chosen InvitationalLord Of Steel “.
First, Big Up to Jo, the organizer, for the amount of work his crew put up to prepare this in-town contest! The jib area was filled with modules (C-rail, straight rails, box, trash car…), but the launching zone was maybe not high enough to get sufficient speed and the riders found it hard to express their skills. At that game Lucas Bennachio played well and won the pro contest.

The other bad thing was that during the pro finals, the jib zone was reserved for the “official” film company. So we had a hard time filming some good footage. Anyway we got some good shots during the demo session and in the crowd we enjoyed the good vibes, the punk & bling bling attitudes of a couple of dutch riders, the beers, the yellow, the black…

Here is the 19th episode of BrOADER TV!!

burtonnike.jpg There had been rumors in the industry since a few weeks but the news was made official today: Burton snowboards has been purchased by leading sport manufacturer Nike.

It’s obvious that since a few years Nike is trying its best to enter the snowboard industry and take its piece of the pie. Facing problems reaching significant marketshares with its own products, acquisition seemed the best solution for Nike. So the sports giant decided to hit hard and went straight for the best snowboarding company out there: Burton snowboards.

It’s a hell of a shock for us and a damn dark day for snowboarding…
